[http://www.herbaldb.com/bitter-melon/20110503/what-is-bitter-melon-and-why-does-it-taste-the-way-it-does/ કારેલું] (અંગ્રેજી: bitter melon or bitter gourd, વૈજ્ઞાનીક નામ: ''Momordica charantia'') એ વ્યાપક જોવા મળતું તથા શાકો મા સૌથી કડવું શાક છે. આ શાક શાસ્ત્રીય રીતે કકુર્બીટેસી વર્ગમાં આવે છે. આના વેલા થાય છે. એશિયા આફ્રિકા અને કેરેબિયન ક્ષેત્રોમાં આમા ફળો માટે ઉગાડવામાં આવે છે. તેનો આકર અને કડવાશ વિવિધ પ્રજાતિ અનુસાર બદલાય છે. આ ફળ આમ તો ઉષ્ણકટિબંધ ક્ષેત્રનો વેલો છે પણ તેનું મૂળ ક્ષેત્ર અજ્ઞાત છે
