These are images selected for display on the [[Main Page]] as the '''Picture of the day'''. Publishing them in this page allows all users to translate the captions into other languages. In this early phase of Commons, the selection of images is performed by anybody. It is our goal that eventually, the Pictures of the day will always be '''[[Commons:Featured pictures|Featured picture]]s''' (which are selected by consensus), but right now we don't have enough featured pictures.
