અડદ એ એક કઠોળ છે. આનું શાસ્ત્રીય નામ વીગ્ના મુંગો છે. આને અંગ્રેજીમાં બ્લેક ગ્રામ, બ્લેક લેન્ટીલ, વ્હાઈટ લેન્ટીલ, કે બ્લેમ માટ્પે બીન નામે ઓળખાય છે. આ કઠોળ દક્ષિણી એશિયામામ્ ઉગાડવામાં આવે છે. પહેલા આને અમ્ગ સાથે ''ફેસીઓલ્સ્માં વર્ગીકૃત કરયા હતા પણ પછી તેને વીગ્નામાં ખસેડાયા. એક સમયે આને મગની જ એક પ્રજાતી ગણાવામાં આવતી હતી. જો તેની છાલ સાથે વેચવામાં આવે તો તેને બ્લેક લેન્ટીલ કહે છે અને તેને છાલ રહિત વેચાય તો એને વ્હાઈત લેન્ટીલ કહે છે.
Black gram originated in [[India]], where it has been in cultivation from ancient times and is one of the most highly prized [[Pulse_(legume)|pulses]] of India. The coastal Andhra region in Andhra Pradesh is famous for black gram after paddy. The Guntur District ranks first in Andhra Pradesh for the production of black gram. Black gram has also been introduced to other tropical areas mainly by Indian immigrants.
 
આ કઠોળનું મૂળ ઉદ્ગમ ભારત મનાય છે. પ્રાચીન સમયથી ભારતમાં અડદ ખવાતા આવ્યા છે અને તે ભારતના સૌથી મોમ્ઘા કઠોળમાંનું એક છે. તટાવર્તી આંધ્ર પ્રદેશનું ક્ષેત્ર ચોખા અને અડદની ખેતીમાતે જાનીતું છે. અડદના ઉત્પાદનમાં આધ્રપ્રદેશમાં ગુંટુર જિલ્લો પ્રથમ ક્રમાંકે આવે છે. ભારતથી સ્થળાંતરીત થયેલા લોકોએ અન્ય પ્રદેશોમાં આનો ફેલાવો કર્યો છે.

It is an erect, suberect or trailing, densely hairy, annual herb. The tap root produces a branched root system with smooth, rounded nodules. The pods are narrow, cylindrical and up to six cm long.
