તેઓ મહુવા નગરપંચાયતના પ્રમુખ બનેલા. પછીથી તેઓ ત્યારની મુંબઈ ધારાસભાનાં સભ્ય તરીકે ચૂંટાયા. તેઓએ મુંબઈ રાજ્યથી અલગતા માટેની [[મહાગુજરાત ચળવળ]]માં પણ ભાગ લીધેલો. ૧૯૬૨માં તેઓ મહુવા મતક્ષેત્રમાંથી [[ગુજરાત વિધાનસભા]]ના સભ્ય તરીકે ચૂંટાયા જે બેઠક તેમણે ૧૯૮૦ સુધી જાળવી રાખેલી.<ref name=am/>
He become the president of the Mahua Municipality. Later he was elected as a member of the Bombay Legislative Council. He participated in [[Mahagujarat Movement]] which demanded separate Gujarat state from [[Bombay state]].
