'''ઓમકારેશ્વર''' હિંદુ દેવ [[શિવ]] ને સમર્પિત એક [[મંદિર]] છે. ભગવાન શિવના ૧૨ જ્યોતિર્લિંગમાંનું આ એક છે. આ મંદિર માંધત કે શિવપુરી નામના નર્મદા નદીના એક ટાપુ પર આવેલું છે. કહેવાય છે કે આ ટાપુનો આકર ॐ જેવો છે. અહીં બે મંદિરો આવેલા છે, ઓમકારેશ્વર (ઓમકારના ભગવાન) અને અમરેશ્વર (અમર દેવોના ભગવાન). પણ દ્વાશ જ્યોતિર્લિંગના શ્લોક અનુસાર, મામલેશ્વર જ્યોતિર્લિંગ છે, જે નર્મદા નદીની પેલે પાર અવેલું છે.

ઓમકારેશ્વર જ્યોતિર્લિંગ સાથે સંકળાયેલી અમુક દંતકથાઓ છે. તેમાંથી ત્રણ ઘણી પ્રચલિત છે.

એક અન્ય કથા અનુસાર એક સમયે દેવો અને દાનવો વચ્ચે બીષણ યુદ્ધ થયું હતું જેમાં દાનવોની વિજય થયો હતો. દેવો માટે આ ખૂબ જ શરમ જનક વાત હતી. આથી તેમણે ભગવાન શિવની આરાધના કે તપશ્ચર્યા કરી. તેમની આરાધના ના ફળ સ્વરૂપે ભગવાન શિવ ઓમકારેશ્વર સ્વરૂપે પ્રગટ થયા અને દાનવોને પરાસ્ત કર્યાં.
