તેમણે કૉલેજના પહેલાં વર્ષ સુધી અભ્યાસ કર્યો હતો. == જીવન ==
અભ્યાસ બાદ થોડોક સમય સરકારી નોકરી કરી હતી પરંતુ અલગારી સ્વભાવને કારણે તેઓક્યાંય ઠરીઠામ ન થયા. ભારતી ભૂષણ, ઇતિહાસ માળા, કૃષ્ણ મહોદય જેવા સામાયિકોના સંચાલક રહ્યા અને થોડોક સમય 'બુધ્ધિપ્રકાશ'ના સંપાદક પણ રહ્યા.<ref name="GPP" />
અર્વાચીન ગુજરાતી કવિતા અને ગઝલનાના તેઓ મુખ્ય પ્રણેતા ગણાય છે. [[મણિલાલ દ્વિવેદી]] તેમના ખાસ મિત્ર હતાં. તેઓ પોતાને [[દલપતરામ]]ના ‘પદ-રજ સેવક’ તરીકે ઓળખાવતા, શિખરિણી છંદ એમની વિશિષ્ટતા હતી.<ref name="GPP" />એમ કહેવામાં આવે છે કે [[કલાપી]]એ ગઝલ લખવાની કળા તેમની અને [[મણિલાલ દ્વિવેદી]] પાસે શીખી.<ref>{{cite book|title=Modern Indian Literature, an Anthology: Surveys and poems|url=https://books.google.co.in/books?id=m1R2Pa3f7r0C|author=K.
