'''ઉલ્કા''' એ [[સૌરમંડળ]]માં વેરાયેલા રેતકણ જેવડાં નાના કદથી લઇ અને વિશાળ મોટા પથ્થરનાં કદનાં ભંગારનાં કણો છે. આ પ્રકારનાં નાના મોટા પદાર્થો જ્યારે [[પૃથ્વી]]નાં [[ગુરૂત્વાકર્ષણ]]ને કારણે ખેંચાઇ આવે છે, ત્યારે તે વાતાવરણનાં ઘર્ષણને કારણે પોતાનાં પતન માર્ગનો પ્રકાશીત પથ દર્શાવે છે, જેને સામાન્ય ભાષામાં આપણે "ખરતો તારો" કે "ઉલ્કાપાત" કહીએ છીએ. આ પદાર્થ (meteoroid)ક્યારેક વાતાવરણમાં સંપુર્ણ ભસ્મીભુત ન થતાં જમીન સુધી પહોંચી આવે છે, જેને પણ 'ઉલ્કા' (meteorite) કહેવાય છે.
