રા' નવઘણનો પુત્ર [[રા' ખેંગાર દ્વિતીય|રા' ખેંગાર]] તેના પછી વંથલીની ગાદીએ બેઠો હતો.<ref name="Indian Antiquary, Volume 2"/> રા' નવઘણને ચાર પુત્રો હતા. રા' નવઘણે ચાર પ્રતિજ્ઞા લીધી હતી, ૧. હરરાજ મહિડાનો વધ કરવો, ૨. ભોંયરાનો ગઢ ભાંગવો, ૩. મિસાણ ચારણના ગાલ ફાડવા અને ૪. [[પાટણ]]નો દરવાજો પાડવો. તેણે ચારે પુત્રોને બોલાવી કહ્યુ કે "જૂનાગઢના રા' પોતાના પુત્રને ગાદી નહીં પણ પ્રતિજ્ઞા આપે છે", કહી ચાર પ્રતિજ્ઞા સંભળાવી. પ્રથમ ત્રણ પુત્રોએ કોઈ એક, બે કે ત્રણ પ્રતિજ્ઞા સુધી હામી ભરી અને એ પ્રમાણે તેમને ગરાસ મળ્યો. જ્યારે સૌથી નાના પુત્ર ખેંગારે ચાર પ્રતિજ્ઞા પૂર્ણ કરવાનું વચન આપ્યું જેથી ગાદીએ બેઠો. 'દયાશ્રય' અને 'કુમાર પ્રબંધ' નામના બન્ને પ્રખ્યાત ઇતિહાસ ગ્રંથોમાં રા' નવઘણ અને [[રા' ખેંગાર દ્વિતીય|રા' ખેંગાર]] બન્નેને આહિર રાણા ગણાવવામાં આવ્યા છે,<ref name="Indian Antiquary, Volume 2"/><ref name="S.
