'''મુહમ્મદ''' (અથવા ‍'''મહંમદ''' અથવા '''મુહંમદ''') એ [[ઇસ્લામ]]ના આખરી પયગંબર છે. હજરત મુહમ્મદ સાહેબનો જન્‍મ ૧૨ રબી ઉલ અવ્વલ ને સોમવારે, ૨૨ એપ્રિલ ઇ.સ. ૫૭૧માં [[અરબસ્‍તાન]]નાં [[મક્કા]] શહેરમાં થયો. તેઓ હજુ માતાના ઉદરમાં જ હતા એ દરમિયાન એમના પિતા હજરત '''અબ્દુલ્લાહ'''નુ અવસાન થઇ ગયું ત્‍યાર પછી તેઓ દાદા અબ્દુલ મુત્તલિબની છત્ર છાયા હેઠળ રહ્યા, છ વર્ષની વયે તેમના દાદાનું પણ અવસાન થયું, ત્‍યાર પછી તેઓ કાકા અબુ તાલિબ ની છત્રછાયા હેઠળ રહ્યા. ૨૫ વર્ષની ઉંમર થતાં તેમણે બીબી ખદીજા સાથે લગ્ન કર્યાં. ચાલીસ વરસના થયા ત્‍યારે તેમને ઇશ્વરે દૂત ([[પયગંબર]]) બનાવ્‍યા અને તેઓએ આવી લોકો સમક્ષ પોતાના વિશે ઇશદૂત હોવાનો દાવો કર્યો અને ત્યારથી ઇસ્લામમાં તેઓ 'પયગંબર મુહમ્મદ (સ .અ. વ.)' તરીકે ઓળખાયા. જેનો અર્થ '[[અલ્લાહ]]ની દયા એમના પર થજો' થાય છે. મક્કામાં તેઓએ ધર્મની તબ્લિગ શરુ કરી. ધીરે ધીરે લોકો ઇસ્લામ સ્વિકારવા લાગ્યા. પરન્તુ એ સાથે જ કુરેશના કેટલાક લોકોએ એમનો વિરોધ શરૂ કર્યો. કુરેશના લોકોના જુલ્મ થી બચવા મુહમ્મદ સાહેબે મુસલમાનોને હિજરત કરવા જણાવ્યું. જુલાઇ ઇ.સ.૬૨૨ મા એમણે પણ યશરબ તરીકે ઓળખાતા મદીના શહેરમા હિજરત કરી. અહીથી મુસલમાનોના હિજરી કેલેન્ડરનો પ્રારમ્ભ થાય છે. અરબીમાં મુહમ્મદ નામનો અર્થ થાય છે "ખૂબજ પ્રશન્સા પામેલ". કુરાનમાં આ શબ્દ ૪ વાર આવ્યો છે. મુહમ્મદ સાહેબનુ એક નામ "અહમદ" પણ છે, જેનો ઉલ્લેખ કુરઆનમાં ૧ વાર આવ્યો છે. તેમણે લોકોને એક અલ્લાહની ઇબાદત કરવાનુ આહ્વાન આપ્યું. મુસલમાનોને [[નમાઝ]] પઢવાનુ જણાવ્યું. આ ઉપરાંત [[રોઝા]] રાખવા, દાન આપવુ અને માલદાર હોય તો [[હજ]] પઢવાનું જણાવ્યુ. ૨૦૦૯નાં આંકડાઓ પ્રમાણે વિશ્વમાં મુસલમાનોની કુલ વસ્તી એક અબજ સત્તાવન કરોડ છે. મહંમદ સાહેબે ૬૩ વરસની વયે આ જગતમાથી વિદાય લીધી.
