ગ્રામ્યલોકો માટે પુત્ર કે પુત્રિના વિવાહમાં કરવો પડતો ખર્ચ તેમને આર્થિક દ્રષ્ટિએ પાયમાલ કરે છે છતા વિવાહમાં શક્તિ બહાર ખર્ચ કરવો એક સામાજીક રસમ થઈ પડી છે. રાલેગન ગામના લોકોએ આ બોજ સામે લડવા સમૂહ લગનોત્સવનું આયોજન કર્યું. આવા પ્રસંગોમાં તરૂણ મંડળ રાંધવાની અને પિરસવાની જવાબદારી ઉઠાવે છે આ ઉપરાંત વાસણ, વાજા, મંડપ વગેરેની સગવડ પણ આ મંડળી કરી આપે છે. આવી સુંદર વ્યવસ્થાથી ૧૯૭૬ થી લઈને ૧૯૮૬ સુધીમાં ૪૨૪ વિવાહો યોજાયા.<ref name="અણ્ણા હઝારે visits KISS"/>
Most rural poor get into a debt-trap as they have to incur heavy expenses at the time of marriage of their son or daughter. It is an undesirable practice but has almost become a social obligation in India. [[Ralegan Siddhi|Ralegan's]] people have started celebrating marriages collectively. The feast is held together where the expenses are further reduced by the ''Tarun Mandal'' taking the responsibility for cooking and serving the food. The vessels, the Loudspeaker system, the mandap and the decorations have also been bought by the ''Tarun Mandal'' members belonging to the oppressed castes. From 1976 to 1986, 424 marriages have been held under this system.<ref name="અણ્ણા હઝારે visits KISS"/>
