બીએસઈ સેન્સેક્સ અથવા મુંબઈ સ્ટોક એક્સચેન્જ સેન્સીટીવ ઇન્ડેક્સ એ મુંબઈ શેરબજાર ખાતે થતી શેરોની લે-વેચ પર આધારીત એક આંક છે, જેનો આધાર પહેલી જાન્યુઆરી, ૧૯૮૬ના રોજ નોંધવામાં આવેલી ૩૦ (ત્રીસ) કંપનીઓના શેરોની લેવડદેવડની કિંમત પર રહે છે. આ સેન્સેક્સ ભારતીય શેરબજારનાં તમામ સ્થાનિક એક્સચેન્જોમાં થતી લેવડદેવડ માટે શ્વાસના ધબકારા સમાન ગણાય છે. It consists of the 30 largest and most actively traded stocks, representative of various sectors, on the Bombay Stock Exchange. These companies account for around fifty per cent of the market capitalization of the BSE. The base value of the sensex is 100 on April 1, 1979, and the base year of BSE-SENSEX is 1978-79.

Instead of using a company's outstanding shares it uses its float, or shares that are readily available for trading.
