કરકરો
કરકરો (અંગ્રેજી: Demoiselle Crane, હિન્દી: कूंज, ઉર્દુ: کونج, પંજાબી: ਕੂੰਜ]]), (Anthropoides virgo) એ મધ્ય યુરેશિયામાં જોવા મળતી બગલા (crane)ની એક પ્રજાતિ છે જેનો વિસ્તાર કાળા સમુદ્રથી મોંગોલિયા અને ઉત્તર પૂર્વ ચીન સુધી છે. તુર્કિમાં પણ તેની એક નાની પ્રજનન વસાહત આવેલી છે. આ એક ઋતુ પ્રવાસી પક્ષી છે, પશ્ચિમ યુરેશિયાના પક્ષીઓ શિયાળો આફ્રિકામાં ગાળે છે જ્યારે એશિયા, મોંગોલિયા અને ચીનના પક્ષીઓ શિયાળો ભારતીય ઉપખંડમાં ગાળે છે. આ પક્ષી ઉત્તર ભારતની સંસ્કૃતિ સાથે પ્રતીકાત્મક નોંધપાત્રતાથી જોડાયેલું છે, જ્યાં તે "કુંજ" ના નામે ઓળખાય છે.[૨]

આ પક્ષી 76 cm (30 in) ઊંચાઈ, 85–100 cm (33–39 in) લંબાઈ, અને 155–180 cm (61–71 in) પાંખોનો વ્યાપ ધરાવે છે. તેનું વજન 2–3 kg (4.4–6.6 lb) હોય છે. તે પોતાની જાતિની સૌથી નાની પ્રજાતિ છે.[૩][૪] કદમાં કરકરો કુંજ કરતાં સહેજ નાનો હોય છે. તેનો અવાજ કુંજ કરતા વધુ તીણો હોય છે અને તે પણ નૃત્ય પ્રદર્શન, કુંજ કરતાં વધુ સારૂં, કરી જાણે છે.
