યુરોપ પૃથ્વીના ઉત્તર ગોળાર્ધ અને મુખ્યત્વે પૂર્વ ગોળાર્ધમાં આવેલો એક ખંડ છે. તે યુરેશિયા ખંડનો મોટાભાગનો પશ્ચિમ ભાગ સમાવિષ્ટ કરે છે,[૭] અને ઉત્તરમાં આર્કટિક મહાસાગર, પશ્ચિમમાં એટલાન્ટિક મહાસાગર, દક્ષિણમાં ભૂમધ્ય સમુદ્ર અને પૂર્વમાં એશિયા ખંડ સાથે જોડાયેલ છે. યુરોપ તથા એશિયાને જુદા પાડતી કાલ્પનિક રેખા દાર્દનેલીસ, મર્મરા સમુદ્ર, બૉસફૉરસ, કાળો સમુદ્ર, કૉકસ પર્વતમાળા, કૅસ્પિયન સમુદ્ર, યુરલ નદી, યુરલ પર્વતો તથા નોવયા ઝેમ્લયાથી પસાર થાય છે.[૮]
